Ranking for high-intent local concreting keywords
Kenset Construction is a licensed Adelaide-based concrete contractor operating since 2010, with over 500 residential and commercial projects completed across South Australia. Their services span concrete driveways, exposed aggregate, coloured concrete, shed slabs, retaining walls, footpaths, patios, and industrial concreting — a full-service offering built on over a decade of on-ground reputation.
Despite that track record, Kenset had no professional digital presence and no organised system for managing internal operations. Homeowners and commercial clients searching for concreting services in Adelaide could not find them. Their quote process was manual. Their project tracking was fragmented.
We delivered a complete digital transformation across three interconnected work streams: a custom website built from scratch, a tailored internal company management system, and a comprehensive local SEO strategy targeting 60+ Adelaide suburbs.
The Challenge
Kenset's challenge was not a single problem — it was three problems compounding each other:
- No digital presence — a licensed contractor with 500+ projects and 14 years of trading had no website. Every enquiry came through word of mouth or direct referral; the business was invisible to the majority of the market actively searching online
- Manual operations at scale — quote management, job tracking, permit coordination, scheduling, and client records were all handled through informal processes that created bottlenecks as the business grew
- A highly competitive local search landscape — construction and concreting keywords in Adelaide are dominated by established businesses and aggregator directories; ranking without a technical SEO foundation built into the site from day one was not viable
A template website or a basic brochure build would not have addressed any of these effectively. We built all three from the ground up.
Work Stream 1 — Website Development
Design Approach
We designed the site with the construction industry context front of mind: clients researching contractors are making a significant financial decision about work on their home or business. The design needed to communicate professionalism, longevity, and trustworthiness immediately — not through claims, but through the quality of the execution itself.
We chose a dark, high-contrast aesthetic aligned with the construction industry — professional, serious, and distinctly different from the generic light-background trades websites that most Adelaide competitors use. Typography, spacing, and image treatment were selected to reinforce credibility at every scroll position.
Service Page Architecture
Rather than a single "our services" page, we built dedicated landing pages for each of Kenset's eight service categories:
- Concrete Driveways
- Exposed Aggregate Concrete
- Coloured Concrete
- Shed Slabs
- Retaining Walls
- Footpaths & Pathways
- Patios & Entertaining Areas
- Industrial Concreting
Each page targets its own primary and secondary keyword set, contains service-specific content addressing what Adelaide homeowners and commercial clients want to know, and includes its own conversion pathway. This structure gives Kenset eight independent ranking opportunities rather than one crowded page trying to rank for everything.
Lead Generation & Conversion Features
Every page was built around converting visitors into enquiries:
- Prominent quote CTAs positioned at multiple scroll depths — top of page, mid-content, and footer — so the conversion path is never more than a scroll away
- Free quote form with clear turnaround promise (24 hours) to set expectations and reduce friction
- Click-to-call phone integration for mobile users who prefer to contact directly
- Google Maps embed making the service area and business location immediately verifiable
- Gallery sections showcasing real project photography across Adelaide suburbs — not stock imagery
Trust Signal Integration
Operating in a category where unlicensed operators are a genuine concern for consumers, we made Kenset's credentials impossible to miss:
- Builder's Licence number (BLD 327293) displayed clearly throughout
- HIA (Housing Industry Association) Partner membership badge
- ABN and insurance details visible without requiring the visitor to dig
- Australian Standards compliance references (AS 3600, AS 1379) for clients who know what to look for
- Project gallery with location metadata anchoring the work to real Adelaide suburbs
Mobile-First, Performance-Focused Build
The primary user for a concreting website is a homeowner on a mobile device doing research. The site was built mobile-first — every layout decision was made for the phone screen first, then adapted upward. Load performance was treated as a ranking and conversion factor throughout — clean code structure, optimised image delivery, and no unnecessary third-party script weight.
Work Stream 2 — Internal Company System
The Operational Problem
Before the system, Kenset's internal operations ran on a combination of phone calls, text messages, handwritten notes, and informal memory. For a business handling multiple active jobs simultaneously — each with its own timeline, crew assignment, permit status, and client communication thread — this created compounding risk as volume increased.
What We Built
Project Management Module A centralised job tracker giving the Kenset team visibility into every active project — current status, assigned crew, start and expected completion dates, and any outstanding actions. No more piecing together job status from a chain of text messages.
Quote & Job Management A structured workflow for the free quote process — from initial enquiry capture through site visit scheduling, quote generation, client approval, and job creation. The 24-hour quote turnaround promise the business makes to clients is now backed by a system that ensures it.
Client Records System A persistent client database capturing contact history, project details, and communication logs. Returning clients and referrals are recognised immediately. Every previous interaction is accessible in seconds.
Permit Tracking Module Kenset handles council crossover permits on behalf of their clients — a service differentiator that requires careful coordination with local councils across multiple Adelaide municipalities. The permit tracking module manages application status, council reference numbers, expected approval timelines, and client notifications throughout the process.
Scheduling System An integrated scheduling view aligned with Kenset's 1–2 week project commencement workflow — crew capacity, job start dates, and timeline dependencies visible in one place, reducing the double-booking and scheduling conflicts that manual coordination inevitably produces.
Work Stream 3 — Local SEO
Strategy
Concreting and construction keywords in Adelaide are competitive. Ranking without a deliberate, technically sound SEO foundation is not a realistic outcome for a new domain. We built the SEO architecture into the site from day one rather than retrofitting it afterward.
Keyword Targeting
Primary target terms covering the highest-intent, highest-volume searches in the category:
- Concreting Adelaide / Concreters Adelaide
- Concrete driveways Adelaide
- Exposed aggregate Adelaide
- Shed slabs Adelaide
- Concrete patios Adelaide
- Retaining walls Adelaide
- Suburb-specific variations across 60+ Adelaide locations
On-Page SEO
Every page built with a complete on-page SEO foundation:
- Optimised title tags targeting primary keyword + location modifier
- Meta descriptions written for click-through, not just keyword presence
- Proper H1/H2/H3 heading hierarchy matching the content structure and keyword intent
- Canonical tags preventing any duplicate content signals from the suburb page network
- Schema markup (LocalBusiness, Service) making Kenset's business entity clearly readable to search engines
Local SEO Infrastructure
- Geo-targeting setup with ICBM meta tags and geo-region signals for Adelaide and South Australia
- Google Business Profile optimisation aligned with the website's NAP (Name, Address, Phone) data
- Location-specific content for Kenset's primary service areas: Paralowie, Salisbury, Gawler, Elizabeth, Modbury, and 60+ additional Adelaide suburbs — each suburb page targeting the combination of service type and suburb name that represents genuine local search intent
Technical SEO
- Clean robots.txt and meta robots directives — no crawl budget wasted on low-value pages
- Mobile-first build satisfying Google's mobile indexing requirements from launch
- Page speed optimisation meeting Core Web Vitals thresholds
- Structured data implementation ready for rich result eligibility
Content Strategy
Beyond the core service pages, we developed a content architecture for sustained organic growth:
- Pricing pages addressing the "how much does concreting cost in Adelaide?" queries that represent high buyer intent
- FAQ sections built from the actual questions Adelaide homeowners ask before engaging a concreter — structured to compete for featured snippet positions
- Suburb landing pages capturing the long-tail, location-specific searches that aggregate directories cannot match with dedicated, locally-specific content
